DUGAS DIGIT DONATION UPDATE- So far, we have been able to send Kevin $5610 due to your generous contributions.  Donations have ranged from $5 to $500 and have come from all over the country – New England to Louisiana, California to Alaska and everywhere in between. Things have stalled over the holidays but we are hoping that it’s time for the goodwill to pick up again as the Ball is only 5 weeks away.  Time to start thinking about Mardi Gras and joining the FRIENDS OF KEVIN DUGAS KREWE.

Lagniappe Productions is organizing a “FRIENDS OF KEVIN DUGAS KREWE”.  Kevin, the long time drummer for Steve Riley & the Mamou Playboys, recently suffered a very serious injury almost severing his index finger by cutting through the bone and ligaments of his left hand. Like most of the musicians in southwest Louisiana and those playing roots music in general, Kevin does not have medical insurance.  Kevin was rushed to a hospital in New Orleans, but without insurance, was turned away and was told that he had to wait for eight days before he could be operated on by a hand surgeon.  After a long and painful delay, Kevin had his surgery on Friday, November 4.  His finger was successfully reattached and now Kevin faces a long, arduous and painful recovery and rehabilitation.  None of us know how long it’s going to take before Kevin’s back on the drum throne slamming the beat that makes the Mamou Playboys the hardest driving dance band from Louisiana. In the meantime, Kevin has no insurance and no means of income. Kevin is married and has three kids, a teenage son and daughter and another preteen daughter. With the holidays just around the corner, times are looking pretty tough for Kevin and his family this winter.  So, Lagniappe Productions, has organized the “FRIENDS OF KEVIN DUGAS KREWE”. The purpose of this KREWE is to raise some much needed funds for Kevin and his family.  We will run this KREWE up and through the Mardi Gras Ball at Rhodes on the Pawtuxet on February 18, 2012. At that time we will disband the Krewe and celebrate by giving a special T-shirt to any member of the KREWE who donates $25 or more and we will be giving away special 2012 Festival Packages also. We will randomly be giving away weekend passes to the BAYOU & BOOGIE FEST in Rehobeth, MA, MIKE ARNONE’S CRAWFISH FEST in Augusta, NJ, THE GREY FOX BLUEGRASS FESTIVAL in Oak Hill, NY, THE NEWPORT FOLK  FESTIVAL in Newport, RI and THE RHYTHM & ROOTS FEST in Charlestown RI. Friends of Kevin may donate online, or by sending a check to Lagniappe Productions, 51 White Oak Court, Wakefield RI 02879 on his behalf (please clearly note your check with Friends of Kevin Dugas on the memo line).
